OSSIGENO 17 June 2026 – During the demonstration on 19 May in Trieste, held in memory of Almerigo Grilz – which was marked by clashes between right-wing activists who had organised the event and a group of protesters seeking to prevent it – a demonstrator assaulted Gianpaolo Sarti, a journalist with the daily newspaper ‘Il Piccolo’, who required hospital treatment. The reporter reported the assault to the Digos.

THE FACTS – Whilst outside the former headquarters of the Fronte della Gioventù in Via Paduina, several dozen people were commemorating the journalist Almerigo Grilz, who was killed in Mozambique in 1987 due to his right-wing activism, greeting him with the outstretched arm of the Roman salute, around forty people – kept at a distance by a cordon of police and carabinieri in riot gear – were shouting in protest against the ideological nature of the demonstration. At the end of the ceremony, some far-right militants reacted by moving towards the protesters. Chairs and tables from local pubs were used as improvised weapons. The reporter from *Il Piccolo*, who was covering the demonstration for his newspaper and filming the clashes, was punched in the head by one of the demonstrators with a shaved head. The blow caused him to feel unwell, and he was admitted to hospital for the necessary tests.
