OSSIGENO 4 June 2026 – On 17 May 2026, a group of young people attacked a RAI journalist and her cameraman from TGR Emilia-Romagna, who were outside the Intensive Care Unit at the Ospedale Maggiore in Bologna to report on the condition of those hit the previous day in Modena by Salim El Koudri’s car, which had been driven into the crowd. The attackers were likely friends or relatives of those hospitalised and did not want cameras present. They damaged the crew’s tripod and camera. The RAI journalist and cameraman were not physically injured.

RAI has condemned the incident, reiterating its support for those who work across the country on a daily basis, often in sensitive situations, to ensure citizens’ right to be informed. “Any form of aggression or intimidation against journalists and crews carrying out their work,” the broadcaster wrote in a statement, “is unacceptable and constitutes an attack on press freedom and the fundamental principles of a democratic society.”

Solidarity was also expressed by ASER, the Emilia-Romagna Press Association, and by the President of the Region, Michele de Pascale. “Freedom of information is an inalienable right that safeguards our democracy, especially at times of high social tension such as those currently being experienced in the region,” said the governor, adding: “Information is an essential service for citizens, which we must always defend and support.” LT
