The incident happened near the Carabinieri barracks in Giugliano where Cristina Liguori had gone to follow up the arrest of some people. Upon leaving she found the damage. She has received expressions of support.
On the morning of the 8th January 2019, in Giugliano (Naples), individuals who remain unknown perforated – probably with a knife – two car tyres of the journalist Cristina Liguori, who had gone to the police station to document, for the TV station TeleclubItalia and for the newspaper Il Mattino, the arrest of some men considered close to the Mallardo organised crime gang.
The reporter noticed the damage at the exit from the barracks. Cristina Liguori, a professional journalist and president of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Union of Journalists of Campania (Sugc), immediately reported the incident to the Carabinieri of Giugliano.
Cristina Liguori told Ossigeno “Such a thing had never happened to me. I believe that this episode is emblematic of the climate that has been established against journalists. I do not think it was an intimidation directed at me personally. It could have happened to any other colleague”.
The reporter has received numerous expressions of support including the Fnsi, the Sugc, the Union of Journalists of Campania and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
