Defamation. Archived lawsuit against “Livesicilia” and “Foglio”

On January 26, 2017, Giuseppe Sottile and Claudio Cerasa, directors of LiveSicilia and the newspaper Il Foglio respectively, had been sued by Saverio Masi, marshal of the Carabinieri of police protections service for the Public Prosecutor Nino De Matteo. The Carabiniere challenged the two journalists for inaccuracies in the articles on a judicial proceeding against him. For the same story, in April 2017, the preventive seizure of the article by LiveSicilia was ordered, a seizure canceled a month later by the Court of Review of Palermo (read).

PRECEDENTS – From 2011 to today, in Sicily, Ossigeno has detected 297 serious violations of the freedom of the press and of expression committed with illicit acts, acts of violence, and abuse against journalists, bloggers, video operators, photo reporters, publishers, whose names are published in the Observatory’s Table. In 2017, 44 names were added to this list.
